Specialized Venues - ROTC
The rights and wrongs of any given military campaign can long be debated and often are.
What is inarguable however is that the nature of warfare has changed over the course of recent years.
Asymmetrical warfare has largely replaced conventional conflict as the dominant mode of combat operation.
Several of Israels most recent campaigns have fallen squarely into that category. Equally, coalition forces in Afghanistan and Iraq face a similar dynamic.
At Our Soldiers Speak we are keen to discuss the complexities and challenges that arise from this relatively recent development.
Our lectures are often attended by members of the ROTC. We have seen strong contingents across several university campuses and we wish to continue this worthy and vital dialogue.
Of particular interest have been the following topics:
- The mindset of a soldier en-route to the battlefield
- The vital role played by the media in the context of combat reporting
- The disparity between a soldiers and a civilians perception of asymmetrical warfare
- The complexities of fighting an 'invisible' enemy
- Urban combat
- Sentiments experienced following demobilization
- A soldiers understanding that todays battles offer fewer clear lines of victory or defeat
At Our Soldiers Speak we believe that perhaps now more than ever before there are real operational parallels to be drawn between the IDF and coalition troops stationed in Afghanistan and Iraq.
We aim to continue highlighting those parallels, learning from one another and strengthening the discourse between us.
